When does DEFRA Digital Waste Tracking become mandatory?
Waste receivers in England and Wales have had to record and submit movements digitally since 1 October 2026, under the Digital Waste Tracking (England) Regulations 2026 and the Digital Waste Tracking (Wales) Regulations 2026. Scotland follows on 1 January 2027 and Northern Ireland in January 2027. Carriers, brokers and dealers are planned to follow from October 2027, subject to further legislation.
Do you connect to the official DEFRA API?
Yes. Nexus Waste submits directly to the DEFRA Digital Waste Tracking “Receipt of Waste” API and is listed by DEFRA on GOV.UK as compatible software.
What happens if I miss the two-working-day deadline?
The platform tracks every receipt against the SLA and reminds you before it lapses, so you stay clear of the Fixed and Variable Monetary Penalties that apply to late or missing records.
Is my data kept in the UK?
Yes. The platform runs on Google Cloud in the London (europe-west2) region, with an append-only audit trail. Nexus Waste keeps your records while your account is open. You remain responsible for meeting the retention requirements of your permit and the waste regulations.
How is pricing structured?
By location. Each plan includes a number of sites, and you add more sites for a small monthly fee. There is no charge per waste movement, so busy receivers are never penalised.
